Rurrenabaque

Rurrenabaque in the tropical region of Bolivia is a little village which is often mentioned as the door to the amazon.

Samaipata

Samaipata is a little mountain village located in the valleys between the city of Santa Cruz and Cochabamba in the mountains of Bolivia. Politically it’s located in the Province of Florida of the biggest Department of Bolivia – Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz is also the biggest city in Bolivia with about 2. Million inhabitants. The village is based in one valley between 1600 and 1800 meters above Sea level.

Coconuts in Bolivia

The scientific name for coconut is Cocos nucifera. Early Spanish explorers called it coco, which means “monkey face” because the three indentations (eyes) on the hairy nut resembles the head and face of a monkey.

Potato diversity in Bolivia

As Swiss citizens we are used to eat a lot of Potatoes back in Switzerland. Our preferred dishes are Roesti and simple cooked potato with cheese. Btina knows amazingly well how to cook a perfect Roesti. I need to take a picture of it the next one :-)

Avocado in Bolivia

Yes we do LOVE the Avocado fruit and if locally available would eat it every day. While living in Samaipata we had plenty of Avocados available and depending of the original also a very wide variety of them. Usually we created a avocado-based salad or dip called Guacamole.

Papaya

Actually Btina and myself don’t really enjoy pure Papaya but there are so many great health benefits which have motivated us to include it into our daily eating habits – if locally available.

Bananas in Bolivia

It’s not a secret that Btina and myself love Bananas. So this blog post is dedicated to the lovely Banana fruit or technically speaking the banana berry :-) Visually speaking there are green, yellow and red Bananas and maybe even in some additional flavors.

Challenge to find fruits and vegetables in Trinidad

It’s a real challenge to find fresh fruits and vegetables in the city of Trinidad in the Beni region of Bolivia, South America. There is more than enough junk food with lots of salt or even more SUGAR but all the theoretical available tropical fruits are not easily available.
